We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on the ONR-funded project “AI-supported forecasts of heat waves along the Pacific coast of the Americas” at PUC Chile. The ideal candidate has a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Climate Physics, or a related field. The appointment is for two years, and the successful candidate can start immediately.

 

Description

The postdoctoral researcher will be part of an interdisciplinary research team of applied mathematicians and climate scientists. The academic duties include designing machine learning algorithms to detect reliable predictors of heat waves from meteorological data and forecast the frequency and severity of these extreme weather events along the Pacific coast of the Americas. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to disseminate the research in international conferences and journals. Furthermore, the candidate will supervise graduate students working on the project.

Location

The Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile is a research-intensive university in Santiago, Chile, ranking among the top in Latin America. The candidate will have the flexibility to work remotely.
