Abstract:
About ten years ago, Krioukov et al. proposed a new model for complex networks --- the so-called model of random hyperbolic graphs. By means of maximum likelihood estimation the authors therein observed a very good fit with (a subnetwork of) the Internet router network. This drew the attention of the mathematics community to this model, and by now several aspects are already well understood from a mathematical point of view.
In this talk we first survey typical desired properties of complex networks, and then we introduce formally the model of random hyperbolic graphs. Time permitting we illustrate how to show the desired properties in this model.

Dieter Mitsche (PhD ETH Zurich) mainly works on the field of random graphs and its applications to complex networks.
